How Does Acupuncture Enhance Brain Activity?

How does acupuncture affect and enhance brain activity? Acupuncture has been shown to produce changes in brain wave activity, although the specific brain waves involved can vary depending on the type of acupuncture stimulation and the individual’s response to it.

During acupuncture, it is common to observe an increase in theta and alpha brain wave activity, which are associated with relaxation and a decrease in stress and anxiety.

Beta brain waves, which are associated with a state of alertness and cognitive processing, may also decrease during acupuncture.

In addition, studies have found that acupuncture can increase the production of neurotransmitters (such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine) that are involved in regulating pain and mood.

Why Try Acupuncture?

There are many reasons why someone might want to try acupuncture. Some people use acupuncture as a way to manage pain, such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, or headaches. Others use it to address a specific health condition, such as asthma, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, infertility, or addiction. Still, others use acupuncture as a way to improve overall health and well-being or to reduce the stress of life.

Acupuncture is generally considered to be a safe and effective treatment option, with a low risk of side effects. It is often used in conjunction with other treatments, such as therapeutic massage or physical therapy, to help enhance the overall effectiveness of treatment. Medical doctors frequently refer patients to acupuncture as an alternative to medications, surgery, or injections.

There are thousands of clinical studies measuring the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of disease and pain. Setting up a one-on-one consultation with the team at Indigo Healing Acupuncture is a great way to learn how acupuncture could specifically help you feel your best!

  • All patients will be treated in private rooms and separated by a minimum of 6ft in common areas.
  • Appointment availability will be reduced to accommodate physical distancing.
  • All staff will be screened prior to each shift for subjective and objective markers of COVID-19.
  • All staff will be wearing masks while working with patients.

During this time, we ask that you assist us by adhering to the following safety measures:

  • Please call to cancel your appointment if you are feeling unwell with symptoms such as cough, fever, rash, shortness of breath, loss of smell and/or taste, if you have traveled recently, or if you have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • If you are able to come to your appointment by yourself, please do so; if a medically-necessary caregiver is required to accompany you, we may ask him/her to wait outside or in the car during your treatment due to clinic capacity levels.
  • Children (under the age of 18) are only permitted in the clinic with a pediatric appointment.

To ensure the safety of our clinic for all patients, we reserve the right to re-schedule or cancel your appointment if we feel it is not safe to provide a treatment.

2 Friendly Faces from Indigo Healing Acupuncture

This summer marked our one-year anniversary in Dripping Springs and brought exciting changes to the clinic, including our new Office Manager, Courtney!

Courtney joined our team in late July and is the friendly face you’ll meet when you first walk in the door. Originally from South Africa, Courtney now calls Texas home. When she’s not in the clinic, Courtney is an avid athlete, working out 7 days a week and inspiring others to get moving!

To accommodate the needs of the Dripping Springs community, Dr. Michelle now treats patients six days a week, Monday through Saturday.  In the past year, Michelle provided over 2,000 treatments to children & adults helping them to alleviate chronic pain and illness.  If you ask her how she manages to balance entrepreneurship + medicine + family, she’ll tell you it’s easy to get out of bed in the morning knowing that her work changes lives for the better.

With the 2019-2020 school year kicking off in a few days, we look forward to seeing our returning patients and new faces! Let’s make 2020 your best year yet with holistic healing in Dripping Springs!
